The ore body configurations, the overall topography and the ore to waste ratio, favour adoption of semi-mechanized method of mining both in Thakurani and Roida Iron mines. Drilling, Blasting, Loading and Transportation are done mechanically while the Excavation, Sorting and Sizing of boulders are carried out manually. The mines were designed for a combined capacity of 1 million ton per year.
The sized iron ore of minus 250 mm are transported to a centralised crushing and screening plant, located at a distance of about 15 km by dumper trucks / pay loaders from both the mines and the ores are processed to produce different products of varying sizes and grades to meet the customers' specifications. The Crushing and Screening Plant has been supplied and engineered by SVEDALA ARBRA AB of Sweden. The plant has an inbuilt capacity to produce 1 million ton of high grade calibrated ore for sponge iron as well as sized ore for blast furnace, which is expandable to 2 million tons per annum.
